I Can't Breathe
Written and performed by John Johns In response to an email thanking him for this song and asking permission to share it, John said, "I'm so sorry that our system is still so broken after all this time. I wrote from the despair I was feeling through the last couple weeks and I can't even begin to fathom how much more desperate it must feel for you. Absolutely share the song with everyone it might help or provide a voice for." |
I can’t breathe.
The darkness fortifies its grip and I can’t breathe. The evil presses in And now my faith is all I have to carry me. But I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe. I’m lost for words to speak my mind and I can’t breathe. I listen for your love to find me and I know you send the grace to set me free. But I can’t breathe. We kneel in prayer and protest seeking justice for our friends. Oppression won’t prevail because your Spirit you will send So I can breathe. Your love will drive away the hate so I can breathe. The Light will drive away the darkness And we’ll find the words to speak for the unheard. And I will breathe. -- John Johns, May 30, 2020 |

What riding my bike has taught me about white privilege
By Jeremy Dowsett, Quartz, August 29, 2014 "I am white. So I have not experienced racial privilege from the “under” side firsthand. But my children (and a lot of other people I love) are not white. And so I care about privilege and what it means for racial justice in our country. And one experience I have had firsthand, which has helped me to understand privilege and listen to privilege talk without feeling defensive, is riding my bike." AP PHOTO/BRENNAN LINSLEY |
